Sometimes it is actually wrong (my stitches were all twisted) sometimes you aren't. Are your stitches turned right? If so continue to knit the way you like to knit. I carry my yarn in my left hand just like when I crochet and pick stiches. That is what is easy for me to do. Sh...I know someone else who had a similar problem. She'd been knitting wrong her whole life and didn't realize it until she tried a new technique.
